STS lift Nawras Challenger Trophy

MUSCAT — STS emerged champions of the month-long Nawras Ramadan Challenger Cricket Tournament. Electing to bat first STS scored 47 for the loss of 6 wickets. Farhan top scoring with 22 runs, Adnan Ilyas 12 runs and Syed with 8 runs all made useful contributions. Aslam and Abbas from Friends XI was the pick of the bowlers with three and two wickets respectively. In reply Friends XI were all out for 38 runs in 7.2 overs. Suhail scoring 16 and Aslam making 8 runs for his team. Adnan, Farhan and Syed took 2 wickets each. Farhan Afzal Khan from STS was declared the man of the match. In the semifinal matches held earlier STS beat Royal Challengers Mangalore and Friends XI got the better of Rangers XI. Dr V S Kumar, GM Mustafa Sultan Exchange company alongwith other senior staff of the company and Dad Mohammed Manager, OCT Seeb Cricket Team were present to witness the finals and semifinals. Abbas from OCT Seeb won the best batsman award while Shahjahan from OCT Mabella received the best all rounder award and they both received gift hampers from Nawras.Speaking after the finals Dad Mohammed Seeb captain said: “Our team OCT Seeb played two matches in this knockout tournament and all of our members were satisfied for their performance. The organisers did a marvellous job. We thank Gulf Sports Club for inviting us to this biggest cricketing event of the year. Rao, brand manager, Oman Marketing & Services Company (Omasco), Sher Mohammed (OCT Mabella team manager) were present to give away the prizes to the top performers and individuals of winning and runners up teams which was held at the Bowsher Hotel in Al Ghubra. Presenting the prizes at the end of the day, Hussein said: “We are pleased to have had this chance to support this biggest cricketing event of the year. Seventh Day
MUSCAT — Royal Challengers Mangalore was the first team to make it to the semifinals of the Nawras Ramadan cricket and they will challenge STS, while Rangers, Friends XI, Al Seer and Tely Boyz are in the race of second semifinal slot. In the matches played on Thursday, Falaj Al Wusta lost to Friends XI, Falaj Al Wusta batting first scored 39 for 8 from the allotted 8 overs, Aslam taking 3 wickets. In reply Friends XI surpassed the scored in 7.1 overs, Roger making 10, and Suhail 8. Friends XI will clash with Tely Boyz for a place in the semis. Aslam from Friends XI was the man of the match. In the second match Ruwi Boyz lost to Rangers (Sri Lanka), invited to bat first Ruwi Boyz were restricted to only 26 runs losing 8 wickets in 8 overs. Rangers in reply beat them easily with Ishara scoring 16 runs and losing one wicket in 2 overs. Ishara from Rangers, Sri Lanka was declared the man of the match. Rangers will now face Al Seer XI. In the match between City Cricketers and Al Seer Barka. Al Seer XI scored 47 for the loss of 6 wickets in their 8 overs, Abdullah, Ram scoring 15 and 8 respectively. In reply City Cricketers made 35 runs losing six wickets. Pravin was the man of the match. Al Seer XI will take on Rangers for a semifinal place. In the last match Coastal Cricketers lost to Royal Challengers Mangalore. Batting first Royal Challengers scored 33 runs losing 7 wickets in their 8 overs. In reply Coastal Cricketers made only 27 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 8 overs. Girish of Royal Challengers Managalore was the man of the match. The final of the Nawras Ramadan Cricket will be witnessed by a host of dignitaries from Nawras, Omasco and Mustafa Sultan Exchange Company. The prize distribution will be held at the Bausher Hotel in Al Ghubra where Hussein Al Fadhil , Corporate Affairs Manager, Nawras will be present as a chief guest and V. S. Four teams enter quarterfinals of Nawras Ramadan cricket tourney
Assarian, Tely Boyz, STS and Coastal Cricketers won their respective second round matches to enter the quarterfinals of the ongoing Nawras Ramadan Cricket Tournament at the Jabir bin Zaid hockey ground in Wattayah on Friday night.Earlier on Thursday night, 16 teams out of the 40 in the fray entered into the pre-quarterfinal rounds. They were Coastal Cricketers, Shankholi XI, Arms Computers, Royal Challengers, STS, OUA Red Bats, Al Faisal XI, Assarain XI, Enhance, TelyBoyz, Falaj Al Wusta, Friends XI, Rangers-Sri Lanka, Ruwi Boyz, Al Seer-Barka XI and City Cricketers. The quarterfinals will be played on September 17, while the final of the one-month long tournament will be played on September 18. The awards ceremony will be held at the Baushar Hotel, Al Ghubra a day later.

Fifth DAY MUSCAT — The fifth day of the Nawras Ramadan Cricket Cup played at Jabr bin Zaid ground in Wattayah proved exciting with many close encounters during the weekend. The match between Attic Outdoor and Friends XI proved thrilling as batting first Friends XI scored 37 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted eight overs. In reply Attic Outdoor could manage to score only 32 runs losing six wickets to go down by four runs. Aslam of Friends XI was declared the man of the match for his all round performance. Clinical finish Sultan Centre playing against Rangers XI from Sri Lanka in the second match saw Sultan Centre batting first and scoring 47 runs from the eight overs, Tariq was the top scorer with 24 runs. In reply Rangers surpassed the total in 7.4 overs, Lakmal scoring 27, Ishara 10 respectively. Ishara of Rangers was the man of the match with 10 runs and two wickets. In the other match, Baushar Daredevils invited Ruwi Boyz to bat first in the third match of the day where Ruwi Boyz notched up a total of 56 runs for the loss of seven wickets, Shamz and Bhatt getting double figures. In reply Baushar Daredevils managed to score 33 runs for 8 thereby losing the match by 32 runs. Shamz took the man of the match award for his 16 runs and 1 wicket.
Al Seer (Barka) facing OCT Seeb in the fourth match were first up at the crease where they score 45 all out in their 8 overs. In reply OCT Seeb tied the score in the allotted 8 overs. The match had to be decided by a bowl out which was won by Al Seer (Barka) 2-0. Al Seer’s Tijesh was the man of the match. City Cricketers scored 39 runs for the loss of four wickets from their eight overs, Pravin top scoring with 17. In reply, Oriental Printing Press could only manage 22 runs losing all their wickets in five overs. The highlight of the match was the seven runouts. Pravin was the man of the match. From the 40 teams that took part in the tournament 16 have made it to the second round. Dad Mohammed Al Balushi, the manager of OCT Seeb, was also present to witness all the matches.
Grand finale There will be a grand finale to the Nawras Ramadan cricket tournament on September 18. Top officials from Nawras, Omasco, Jet Airways and Mustafa Sultan Exchange company will be present to witness the matches. Prize distribution will be on the next day at the Buasher Hotel, Al Ghubra. Hussein Fadhil, corporate affairs manager Nawras, along with other senior officials will hand over the prizes. The tournament is being sponsored by Nawras and co-sponsored by Omasco, Jet Airways, Mustafa Sultan Exchange Company, McDonald and Bahar (National Detergent Company).
MUSCAT — The fourth day of Nawras Ramadan cricket tournament witnessed a number of good matches especially from teams like Assarain, Asad XI, STS, Bahwan IT, Falaj Al Wusta. The major attraction of the tournament was the first match played between Asad XI and Al Faisal XI. After winning the toss Asad XI invited Al Faisal XI to bat first. Al Faisal XI scored only 34 runs for the loss of five wickets from the eight overs. Sultan Ahmed and Amir scored 15 and 6 respectively. In reply Asad XI got off to a good start and within three overs they were 16 runs for the loss of two wickets. With the introduction of Amir Kaleem and Sultan Ahmed Asad XI were soon reduced to 19 runs with both bowlers taking six wickets without conceding a run Amir Kaleem taking four and Sultan Ahmed taking two wickets. Sultan Ahmed was declared the man of the match.
The second match played out between Assarain XI and Orbital Challengers was a low scoring game. Batting first Assarain scored 42 runs losing seven wickets with Abhijit and Rajesh scoring seven runs a piece. In reply Orbital Challengers could manage only 33 runs for the loss of six wickets thereby losing the match by nine runs. Deep from Assarain was declared the man of the match for taking 3 wickets and scoring 5 runs. Bahwan IT facing off against Enhance in the third match of the night scored 22 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from the allotted 8 overs. Afzal from Enhance was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets. In reply Enhance scored the required runs in 3.2 overs not before losing 3 wickets. The best performer of the match was Afzal from Enhance. Telly Boyz overcame OIG in the fourth match, Telly Boyz scoring 46 runs from the 8 overs and in reply OIG made 35 runs losing 8 wickets. Sameer from Telly Boyz was the man of the match.In the last match between OCT Muscat (Omani Team) and Falaj Al Wusta. The latter batting first scored 33 runs due to some fine bowling from OCT Muscat. In reply OCT Muscat could only score 27 runs for the loss of 8 wickets thus losing the match by 6 runs. Zaheer from Falaj Al Wusta was the best performer.

The ground was full to capacity with families and cricket lovers. In the first match Shankholi XI played against Nawras batting first Shankholi XI socred 60 runs for the loss of 6 wickets from the allotted 8 overs.In reply Nawras made 36 runs for the loss of 5 wickets losing the match by 24 runs. Asad XI thrashed MIS (Muscat International School) in a low scoring match, MIS batting first were all out for 10 runs with Afridi taking 4 wicket. In reply Asad XI surpassed the target in the third over losing four wickets to win the game. In the third match of the night Century CC batting first scored 34 for the loss of 4 wickets from the allotted 8 overs. Giving chase Royal Challengers got past the total with three overs to spare Deepak was the top scorer with 21 runs. Batting first STS scored 56 for the loss of three wickets in the fourth match that was played Adnan contributing 28 runs to the total from the specified 8 overs. In reply Oman City Mabella was all for 25 runs with Adnan being the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. In the penultimate match between OUA Red Bats and S&T Friends the latter scored 26 from the allotted 8 overs. In reply OUA Red Bats reached the target with losing a wicket, Jaison top scoring with 14 runs.
During the prize distribution the organisers awarded Shohaib from OCT Mabella the youngest Omani player award and Hari from Muscat International School won the youngest expatriate player of the tournament. Both the players got free meal coupons from McDonalds. Both the finalists will receive a pair of Westar watches in addition to the air tickets and Nawras gadgets. Organisers said that the atmosphere is festive and everyone is enjoying the live matches, not matter at the venue or outside. Those who are not present are getting the updates from our committee through SMS or phone calls. The ongoing tournament is one of the premier and executive class tournaments of the country. It is also the most anticipated events on the calendar.

Kumar, general manager Mustafa Sultan Exchange Company, officially inaugurated the much-awaited Grand Nawras Ramadan Challengers Softball cricket tournament organised by Gulf Sports Club at the Wattayah ground. The one month long tournament with 40 top teams from different companies of various nationalities (Omani, Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi) is being played on knock-out basis with each game comprising eight overs. Hussein Al Fadhil played the first ball of the tournament and said it was a memorable experience. “We are enamored to have been given the opportunity to support this spectacular tournament during holy month of Ramadan.” Al Fadhil said. “Nawras is keen to get closer to customers on occasions like this, providing great enjoyment for so many in the community” he added. “We are extremely thankful to our sponsors for supporting this one month tournament. It is impractical to organise a tournament without the support of sponsors. We are grateful to all of our sponsors” said one of the organisers. “Forty teams are playing this time and still more teams are enquiring about the registration. This is a rare opportunity to witness the number of Omani players playing cricket. This proves the popularity of cricket in Sultanate is growing at a rapid rate. To encourage more interest in game we have exclusive prizes for top Omani performers of the tournament,” they added. Dad Mohammed, manager OCT Seeb, Sher Mohammed, manager OCT Mabella along with a number of Omani players also visited the tournament and enjoyed all the matches.
